Ambassador Chen Xiaodong delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the China-South Africa Training Course on Climate Change

On July 24, the opening ceremony of the China-South Africa Training Course on climate change was successfully held in Pretoria. Ambassador Chen Xiaodong delivered a video speech.

Ambassador Chen said that climate change is a very prominent global challenge. Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that addressing climate change is essential required for China's sustainable development and an international obligation of China as responsible major country.China is actively and steadily moving toward our goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality and we will achieve that transition by using the shortest time in global history.

Ambassador Chen said that Africa is one of the regions that suffers the greatest impact of climate change and has the weakest capacity to adapt to it. China is ready to work with South Africa to actively engage in climate change dialogues, exchanges and practical cooperation. China is ready to participate in international climate negotiations in a constructive manner and continue to help other developing countries enhance capacity to mitigate and adapt climate change. China is willing to safeguard the interests of developing countries, enhance cohesion of global climate governance, and promote a fair and reasonable global climate governance system based on win-win cooperation.

This training course was organized by Ministry of the Ecology and Environment of China and Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment of South Africa.Vice Minister Mr Zhao Yingmin, Ambassador Chen Xiaodong and Deputy Minister Ms Makhotso Sotyu have delivered video speeches. Experts from the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other relevant institutions gave lectures on climate policies and actions, China's climate investment and financing practices, carbon market system construction, and urban green and low-carbon development. Officials and experts from Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment of South Africa and Department of Human Settlements of South Africa participated this training course.
