Chinese Ambassador Chen Xiaodong Congratulates South African Winner of the “My Dream” Painting Competition for African Youth

Recently, Sinovuyo Mkula, a student from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa won the First Prize in the “My Dream” Painting Competition for African Youth with her artwork “Harmony”, which, along with nine other award-winning works have already been brought to China’s Space Station by the recently launched Shenzhou-16 manned spacecraft. To mark the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Chen Xiaodong sent her a congratulatory letter, encouraging her to carry forward the everlasting China-South Africa friendship and make contributions to building China-South Africa and China-Africa community with a shared future. Sinovuyo thanked Ambassador Chen for his encouragement in her reply letter and vowed to dedicate herself to China-South Africa friendship.

In March 2023, the Secretariat of the Chinese FOCAC Follow-up Committee, the China Manned Space Engineering Office and the Chinese embassies and consulates in Africa jointly held the “My Dream” Painting Competition for African Youth. More than 2,000 African youths participated in the competition. On May 25, the final result was released, and the painting "Harmony" by South African college student Sinovuyo Mkula won the first prize--Tianhe Award. On May 30, a total of ten winning works of Tianhe Prize were brought to China’s Space Station for display. The organizers will also organize an award ceremony sometime around September this year and invite some winners to visit China.
